'Mom, I bowled out Tendulkar!'
There's cricket on TV, but my tween son is engaged in his own battle of wits. With a computer-generated Tendulkar in an electronic game.
And I'm all in favour. It doesn't beat the real thing, out on a field with team-mates and fresh air, but as a way to while away a holiday hour, it's fun and harmless - and it's given him a broader understanding of the vocabulary and strategy of the sport.
When it comes to electronics my sons choose mostly sports or magical role-play games, without the blood, guts or realistic gun-play that give gaming a bad name. And we make sure to balance gaming time with lots of other pursuits.
There's good gaming and bad gaming. Do you agree? Mail us on chatback@parent24.com. We'll choose one letter writer to receive a Parent24 T-shirt.
Here's some more gaming reading on Parent24:
Is your babysitter a computer?
Do violent games make teens brutal?
But Mom, you just don't understand
Which handheld games console?
Enjoy the rest of the holidays!
