Five local services that offer safe travel for women and children

As a paranoid parent myself, I've not yet let anyone drive my kids anywhere without me. But as they get older, I know I will have to find someone I trust to get them from A to B when I can't. 

There are a few local services that aim to provide safe and trusted transport options, and we've listed four below.

LocTransie 

LocTransie was developed by local mom businesswoman, Tshidi Morabi after she 'lost' her child in a school transport mix-up.

The mobile app connects parents with the child's school transport system, allowing parents to track their children in real-time as they commute to and from school.

Drivers can keep parents directly informed and notified of delays and or route diversions, assurance that children are safely picked up and dropped off on time. 

LocTransie is available in Gauteng.

Cool (kids) Cabs

Cool (kids) Cabs strives to provide a safe way of transporting children between home and school.  

"We get it, you don’t trust just anyone with your child," reads their website "after all, they are precious cargo and we take that responsibility very seriously."

Along with an all-female team of drivers, the service provides onboard cameras and live tracking by team who track and monitor every vehicle to ensure they're running on time,  along the designated routes and are at the correct pick up and drop off points. 

Available in Gauteng and Cape Town.

ChaufHer 

ChaufHer is a ride hail service that connects female drivers with woman and children passengers through an app.

Parent's who don't trust Uber or other local services can call upon ChaufHer to pick up and drop off teens, and mom's can feel safe when travelling with kids (ChaufHer provides booster seats) or alone.

Drivers and riders who for any reason feel unsafe have access to an SOS Emergency button that will notify the company that help is needed. 

The app allows for someone you trust can follow your trip, and also sends a One Time Pin (OTP) to the rider as an extra safety check.

ChaufHer is coming to Cape Town soon, then Johannesburg. 

The Pink Cabs

The Pink Cabs advertises themselves as the first proudly South African woman founded taxi service and transport solution, operated exclusively by women for women.

The service offers women, children, students and senior citizens safe travel without the fear of harassment, abuse or being over-charged. 

All their women drivers are experienced, multi-lingual and well trained in getting you safely home. 

The Pink Cabs is available in Gauteng. 

SchoolRide 

SchoolRide offers safe, secure and affordable transport to scholars, and only employs drivers who have school children of their own, or are teachers or guardians (such as grand parents).

Security features include booking through an app, and each confirmed trip gets a unique QR code that will appear on both the parent and scholar’s account. Parents are notified of pickup and dropoff times and locations in real time, and students must be given parental permission to change authorised rides.  

The company aims to create jobs for parents who want to earn additional income, while providing a safe transport option.
