As I was scrolling through my Facebook feed last weekend, this gem of a post popped up from the Sanctimommy Facebook Page. It seems that a mother had been dumped by her birth photographer because she had elected to have a c-section.
Cue me rolling my eyes because I am so tired of this conversation. I can never understand why people are so judgemental about what other people choose to do with their bodies, from breastfeeding to giving birth. If it's not affecting your life you have no right to an opinion or to judge someone else on it.
Obviously this photographer has bought a very high horse that she is constantly sitting on and lording over all the second-class mothers who have never really given birth to their children.
It's simple really, any process of a baby coming out of a body and joining the rest of us unfortunate souls on this planet is called birth. Whether that process is vaginally or surgically it doesn't matter. A baby is still being born.
By this photographer's account, I have actually not given birth to both of my children which is a bit mind boggling, seeing as they're very real and make their presence very well known. And as it turns out – I was never born either! So I'm really just a figment of your imagination. A ghost writer, if you will (please just allow me my poor jokes, I'm traumatised at never being born).
#NotBorn
And then something awesome happened in the comments section of the Sanctimommy post: moms responded by posting super cute pictures of all their babies who were #NotBorn. Because this whole thing is utterly ridiculous and shaming mothers about how they choose to give birth really has to stop.
Here are my two kids who were #NotBorn
