'Peaceful sleep is already out the window!': A-Bundlely Blessed Diaries #6

They now weigh 524g, 528g and 550g. And I can already feel the difference!

Every four weeks I have follow-up appointments with my gynaecologist. Last week I had my 22-week check-up, where we got to see our babies kicking and moving in real-time.

This is always the highlight of my week! Since our last visit to the specialist, two weeks ago, each baby has since gained approximately 200 grams.

They now weigh 524g, 528g and 550g. And I can already feel the difference!

I’m not only walking slower now, but sleeping has become a bit of a problem too.

'My idea of a peaceful sleep is out the window!'

I sleep with my preggy pillow and a few extra pillows to help support my back, but it takes me a while to get comfy. And somewhere during the night, my sides start to take strain.

And when the little munchkins decide to have a kicking party in my tummy, my idea of a peaceful sleep is out the window! But hey, who needs a full night’s rest, right?

And maybe this is just a taste of things to come (ha!). During our visit, my gynae confirmed that my first steroid injection will be done when I’m 26 weeks.

The second shot will then be administered 24 hours later. Mothers whose babies are at risk of being born too early are given the injections to help with the development of the baby’s lungs and to reduce the risk of serious complications.

My working hours have changed slightly so that I don’t have to sit in morning or evening traffic. Sjoe, I never realised what a big difference this would make, especially with catching up on a few minutes extra sleep.

'It feels as if all the planning is just taking place in my head'

Also, not sure if I’ve mentioned this (I probably have), but I have the most caring and supportive colleagues. Ever since they found out that I’m expecting, they’ve taken a keen interest in our well-being. Not a week goes by without one of them surprising me with a gift for the babies.

This really means so much to us and just shows how blessed these babies already are. My plan for this week is to actually start getting things in order. Right now, it feels as if all the planning is just taking place in my head.

So during the next couple of days, I want to go through Nikolai’s baby clothes, blankets etc. to take stock of what we have and how much I still need.

Then in the next few weeks, I’d like to spend more one-on-one time with Nikolai.

'A sibling gift exchange'

I know it will be a bit chaotic once these three make their appearance, and he’ll kind of have to take a backseat.  I am, however, reading up a lot on how to make the transition period, especially for Nikolai, a little smoother.

So far, I’ve come across a cute idea – a sibling gift exchange. We’ll buy three gifts for Nikolai to bring to the hospital on the day he meets them for the first time.

And in return, each baby will surprise him with a gift. Isn’t he lucky to get two bonus gifts?

In other news, renovations started last week (whoohoo!). Although it’s still in the beginning phase, I’m really excited as it feels like our vision for our new home is finally taking shape – even if it’s just in the form of holes for now (haha).
