At 72, Jane Seymour doesn't look a day over 60.
The James Bond actress says she does everything she can to look good, but she's also learnt to embrace ageing.
“The world is against ageing. We hate ageing," she told Hello! magazine in a recent interview.
“We look at ageing and we go, 'Oh, no, there's a wrinkle, oh my God. Get rid of it. Grey hair. No. Terrifying!' Whereas you can look at it the other way and you can say actually, I now have time in my life to do things I really want to do. Maybe I can now become the person I want to be.”
Jane, who went into menopause when she was in her fifties, says no one – especially women – wants to talk about getting older.
“They're doing everything they can to look 20 or 30 years younger. So the last thing they want to do is to talk about that and there's always been this whole thing that when you turn 50 you're not having babies anymore, so now you're kind of useless. You're on the fence, you're done.”
The actress claims she’s an anomaly in a surgery-loving industry as she’s never gone under the knife.
“I'm unusual in Hollywood in not having any work done, I only know one other actress who hasn’t had it – though she might have now!” she said in an interview with British tabloid Daily Express.
She added that she’s chosen to remain natural as fillers and Botox would've hindered her acting abilities.
“I felt as an actress I needed to have all the moving parts moving,” Jane says. "I’m at the point in life where it’s not all about looking perfect – it’s about playing a character.”
She says she's prefers temporary enhancements like stick-on eyelashes and clip-on extensions.
But it seems she may have forgotten an interview she did with People magazine back in 2007 in which she admitted she'd had “minor” work done around her eyes in the '90s.
“Genetically I had baggy eyes and photographers said they didn’t want to spend money endlessly having to eradicate the bags,” she explained at the time.
In a later interview with Haute Living, Jane revealed she'd had a breast lift at 40.
“To set the record straight, when I was 40 and I’d gone through a horrible divorce, I had breast implants,” she told the publication in 2018.
“I did it because I breastfed my babies and there was nothing left. I was working as an actress and though I was against it, it seemed the right thing to do.”
But, Jane added, she never enhanced her breast size.
“I said, ‘I don’t want anything other than what I was born with. I just want what I was.”
Jane also admitted to trying Botox once but didn’t like it at all.
“The real problem was as an actress, I couldn’t use my facial muscles. I’ve not done that since.”
Dame Joan Collins couldn't resist taking a dig at the former Bond Girl after her interview.
“I'm another #actress in #hollywood who hasn’t had any ‘work’ done @janeseymour – there’s many of us!” Joan wrote in an Instagram post.
The Dynasty star has previously said she doesn’t believe in tweakments – non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as Botox or fillers – and simply relies on a good skincare routine.
“I’ve never had them done and I’m not going to because I’ve seen some disasters,” the 88-year-old said.
But Joan has admitted in the past that she was tempted earlier in her career.
“I once went to speak to somebody during my Dynasty days and when they told me how much it'd cost, I told them, ‘No thank you, I’ll continue with my face cream’.”
Jane also recently spoke about finding love again after going through four divorces.
During the Wags and Walks 12th Annual Benefit Gala held in Los Angeles, the mother of four and her singer/songwriter beau, John Zambetti (73), said their children were instrumental in hooking them up.
“So we certainly don't have to worry about the kids not approving of who we were with," the musician and composer added. "I'm very lucky to be with her,” said John, who plays with The Malibooz band.
