Seeing their faces on his phone screen is the highlight of his day but it also makes him feel sad and alone. 

Because every time Francois Oosthuizen says goodbye to his husband, Bowen Li, and blows air kisses to their son, he wonders when the day will come when they will all be living under the same roof.

Francois (40) is in Cape Town and his spouse, who’s a Chinese national, is thousands of kilometres away in China with their four-year-old child, Kaiwei.
