Brown rice purée
It is easy to make quick, nutritious meals for your baby at any age – especially if you make up batches of purée to freeze. What’s more, it’s a lot cheaper than store bought jars of food, you know exactly what’s in it and you know it’s made with love!

1 cup brown rice
2 cups water, preferably filtered

  1. Wash the rice well and place in a saucepan with the water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer gently for 35-40 minutes until soft and cooked through.
  2. Drain the rice in a sieve and purée to the desired consistency. Add some boiled water if it is too thick.

Did you know?

This can be as quick and easy to make as shop-bought baby rice, but is much healthier. Add it to any fruit or vegetable purées to add some tummy filling, slow release carbohydrate to your baby’s meals.

For babies 6 - 9 months old, start with tiny tastes of simple vegetable and fruit purées – just a teaspoon or two at lunch. Then, when you’re sure your baby is not allergic to anything, you can start mixing and matching.

This low-GI brown rice puree is a good, healthy way to introduce carbohydrates into your baby's diet.
