There’s no perfect formula for raising children – most times, what works for one family, might not work for another.

Piercing babies’ ears at a very young age has become a very sensitive topic among not only mothers, but concerned people in general.

20-year-old multi-millionaire mom Kylie Jenner posted a cute snap of her and her adorable baby girl, Stormi, playing and sharing kisses. The snap video reveals five-month-old Stormi’s pierced ears.

Fans of the star were instantly divided with some against piercing her child’s ears.

According to Wendy Sue Swanson, M.D., a parents advisor and a paediatrician,

“Any time you puncture the skin, you open up the opportunity for infection, and because infants still have developing immune systems, I encourage parents to wait until their child is at least 6 months old to get her ears pierced,” reports Parents.

Some parents believe that piercing their baby’s ears at a young age is better because they don’t remember the pain, and it doesn’t last long.

However on the other hand, some parents believe that piercing the baby’s ears at such a young age takes away the child’s freedom of choice.

A mother who was a guest on the This Morning show stressed that:

“It’s a form of child abuse because the child has no ability to consent, you’re just imposing something that is unnecessary, that causes pain and possible infection on a defenceless baby – just so your child looks like a fashion accessory. Wait till they’re old enough to understand.”
