Mother, author and belly dancer Maha Al Musa has announced that she intends to breastfeed her daughter until her daughter is 10 years old, according to the Daily Mail.

Womb wiggling

Maha, 51, is the owner of a belly dancing company which specialises in assisting pregnant women in birth-belly dancing; a dance style she says helps women enjoy their femininity and strength while helping them prepare physically for birth. She has three children, and is currently breastfeeding her 5-year-old daughter.

She insists that she’ll breastfeed her daughter until she’s ten if that’s what her daughter wants, and that she couldn’t care less what critics think. Public breastfeeding is often in the news, and public extended breastfeeding (when the infant is older than a year) is even more controversial, as seen in the Time Magazine cover debate of 2012.

Her reasoning is that breast milk provides great nutrition for her child as well as the benefits of boosted immunity to infections.

Her popular DVD Dance of the Womb and her book Belly Dance for Birth both encourage women to explore the experience of pregnancy and birth using the sensual moves of belly dancing.
