'Running mom' upsets other parents
Bugaboo’s Instagram image provokes heated exchange.

Self-proclaimed “mobility concept” creators (pram manufacturers) Bugaboo have stirred up a hornet’s nest of criticism after posting images of a model mom running behind one of their products wearing a bikini-style running outfit, according to BusinessInsider.com.

The image was posted to Instagram and Facebook, the latter captioning the pic with “See how model and mum Ymre Stiekema stays fit and healthy with the Bugaboo Runner.”

No baggy tracksuit?

Parenting is good, fitness is admirable (especially if you’re the parent to a small child) but, to many of the brand’s followers, the model’s outfit was simply wrong.

The Bugaboo Runner retails in SA for R11 999.

The image was criticised as unrealistic, ridiculous, inappropriate and even offensive by followers on the social media accounts. Some even suggested that the model, mom of two-year-old Lymée, could not possibly be her real mother.

There’s a fine line between moms who take care of themselves and moms considered to be taking this care to extremes, at least if you gauge this by the opinions on social media. Many moms were quite happy to shame the model in the image, an others scoffed self-deprecatingly as they admitted they’d let themselves go when their babies were kids.

How about you? Do you think this ad is an inappropriate reflection of motherhood?
