A NASA-inspired light to help your baby sleep and other next-level baby gadgets

accreditation

It's official, that village you needed to help raise your child has now been designed into hard-to-believe-exist gadgets.

The perks of parenting in the 21st century.

It's a full-service job after all – especially in the first few months of your baby's life. So if you're willing to put some serious cash aside, check out these cool international inventions.

The Nature Bright Baby Light Sleep Trainer

When it comes to high-tech gadgets, it doesn’t get any better than LED light technology originally used by NASA, and that’s exactly what’s behind the Nature Bright Baby Light Sleep Trainer, which promises to be the answer to every new parent’s prayer – a baby with a healthy sleep pattern.

Due to its SkyEffect technology, the gadget mimics various stages of daylight which helps train your baby’s brain to recognise light cues for sleep time. The device is particularly great for homes with little to no natural light.

Setting the device to the blue light option for mornings, white light for during the daytime and red light for the evenings will induce sleepiness, the creators say.

The device will cost buyers $99 and is available for purchase to South Africans.

The SNOO Smart Sleeper

Smartphones, smart homes, smart sleepers? The SNOO by Happiest Baby, Inc promises to curb the intense sleep deprivation that most new parents suffer from. The technology mimics the motion and sounds of the womb, soothing baby to sleep in a way that helps them develop healthy sleeping patterns all on their own.

The gadget comes with a swaddle outfit that is attached to the smart sleeper, ensuring your baby stays on their back, which is the recommended sleeping position for newborns

You can choose from a variety of speed and duration settings for the rocking motion, which can be controlled from your phone via the SNOO app. The device also has a white noise feature which automatically (and manually) adjusts according to your baby's crying.

The product comes at a steep price – $1200 – and is not yet available to South African buyers.

The Clean Hands Changing Pad

Ah, changing nappies, another of the baby duties that all new parents have to master. The Clean Hands Changing Pad by SnoofyBee acts as a changing pad, a nappy holder and play mat.

The design keeps baby's hands away from the scene of the poop via a fold-up divider, making changing a nappy faster for you and fun for baby. It folds into an easy-to-carry clutch bag when you're done.

iiamo Go

It may sound like an easy task but heating a bottle of expressed breast milk is more complicated than you think: heating it in a microwave orboiling it is a no-no.

Heating it in warm water is advised, but that does mean getting out of bed and losing sleep in the process.

The iiamo Go is pretty cool since it heats in just four minutes and uses no electricity.

The ultimate in soothing-a-crying-baby tech: check out the Babocush. The magic of the cushion lies in the way it perfectly positions baby, easing the discomfort of reflux, colic and winds.

Secure straps hold baby in place and includes a heartbeat sound simulator. The design is also great for tummy time.

Béaba Babycook

The Béaba Babycook is mash-up kitchen tool heaven. This combo steamer and blender is an awesome item for parents who want to make their own baby food.

The Babycook is able to steam fruit, veg, and meat to just over a litre of mashable substance – in 15 minutes.

Too bad its electrical system is only suitable for US and Canadian users.

Skip Hop Vibrant Village Activity Gym

At 6 months, your baby is able to recognise faces better than you can but this ability quickly dwindles at around 9 months.

So parents keen on amping up their baby's vision might want to get their hands on the Skip Hop Vibrant Village Smart Lights Activity Gym.

The widget is designed to develop baby's vision using highly stimulating visuals like bold graphics in both colour and black and white and hangable toys. The device also features removable arches, a gently lit lighting system, a tummy time pillow and fun music.

Price: $85.00

4moms Self-Installing Car Seat

Assembling anything other than an ironing board is a stretch for most of us, so this device had us at self-installing.

Working in tandem with the 4moms app, the only thing you need to do in the setting-up process is clip the seat in place (much like a seat belt). From there the device adjusts itself and allows you to track whether or not the seat is properly in place on a continuous basis via the app.

Price: $199.99
