Mom shares 'I still feel bad that I thought that it was not a major injury'

In relation to the recently published article, How bad is the boo boo? Or 'The day I broke my toddlers leg', Aunt Puseletso wrote in to share her story on how her nephew got seriously injured after attending a friend's party.

He had gone to a party next door, my mom (his grandma) was there as he was jumping up and down with excitement.

Then minutes later he was crying, clutching his hand. My nephew is a joyful kid, brave and always enjoys his own company. But after the fall he was different, quieter and just wanted to go to bed.

When he eventually went to bed, he didn’t sleep for most of the night, I still feel bad that I thought that it was not a major injury.

Me being the aunt who always spoils the kids, I can never tell when they are serious or when they are just being playful and to this day I feel so guilty that I doubted his injury in the beginning.

The next morning my mom woke up and insisted that they take him to the emergency room and yes, his arm was broken (more like had a terrible crack that needed a cast).

My nephew had the cast for the whole of December and he still continued to be the loving, joyful kid and brave little boy he was before the injury.

From this I learned that I should take kids sickness or complaints seriously.

I don’t stay full-time with my daughter and every weekend when I see her she mostly complains that she’s sick or has a cough or her throat is sore.

My mom says she wants my attention but I always make sure I get her medication from pharmacy or take her to doctor cause really I can never know as I’m not the one experiencing that discomfort".
