Top 10 cartoons from our childhood
Forget Ben 10 and the Powerpuff Girls, these are the things your kids should be watching.
Whenever I happen to come across kids programs on TV I sit there and wonder "What the actual hell?". Is this what children are watching? My husband and I have yet to procreate but we've already started a collection of TV series that we used to watch and have introduced them to our nieces and nephews.

So we took a trip down memory lane this morning, thinking of all our favourite cartoons when we were kids and while there are tons that are missing (Captain Planet! He- Man! Pound Puppies!), these are the 10 we could all agree about.

1. Bravestarr

"Strength of a Bear!" Oh Brave Starr, you and your half mechanical horse, Thirty-Thirty saving New Texas from Tex Hex. Every boy I knew wanted to be Brave Starr.

2. The Care Bears

Adorable teddy bears with super powers radiating from their tummies. They lived on clouds and slid down rainbows. They went around the world on missions in Caring while Professor Coldheart tried to thwart their plans.

3. Dino Riders

Only 14 episodes were made but the battle between the good Valorians and evil Rulons on prehistoric Earth was pretty awesome. Look at that guy on a Triceratops.

4. Duck Tales

"Duck Tales! Whoo hoo!" The story of Scrooge McDuck who gets to look after his 3 great-nephews when their Uncle Donald leaves them on his doorstep. Obsessed with trying to protect his money and also, to make more of it, Scrooge was constantly at ends with the Beagle Boys. Other characters like Launchpad and Pyro were great favourites. And admit it, you wanted to be Scrooge when he swam through that vault of money.

5. Heidi

Oh man, I loved Heidi. I ran so fast whenever that song came out. I don't know what it is about Studio Ghibli food, but that cheese, bread and milk always looked so awesome and I was always so disappointed when my mother gave me the same and it tasted nothing like I imagined it would on TV. I was 6, don't judge. Also, I loved that she was so free spirited and not a girly girl, because Lord knows I wasn't.

6. My Little Pony

Have you seen the latest version of this? I hate it, they look like the Powerpuff Girls, all massive eyes and weirdly drawn. In the original TV show, the Ponies who lived in Ponyland had grand adventures. They fought off all kinds of witches, trolls and goblins, trying to enslave or otherwise harm them. They were awesome, they could fly and they had magic powers. Parent24's Robyn wanted one as a pet instead of a puppy. That's how awesome.

7. Rainbow Brite

Another one for the girls. Rainbow Brite rescued the Seven Colour Kids, finds the colour belt and brings colour back to the Colourless World. I loved Rainbow Brite's sprite friend, Twisp. I don't know, this whole show was just made of happy.

8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Transformed by radioactive slime and raised by Ninja Rat, Splinter, the Ninja Turtles fought against Shredder and his henchmen Beebop and Rock Steady with the help of news reporter April O' Neal. Everyone had a favourite turtle, mine was Raphael, he was feisty!

9. Transformers

Thanks to Michael Bay, the Transformers have been revived. Did you know that Peter Cullen has been voicing Optimus Prime since it started in1986. He's been the voice in every TV series, video game and yes, even the Michael Bay movies. Strangely enough he also does the voice of Eeyore. But I digress, the story of the Autobots vs the Decepticons started with an awesome series and would be a great idea if your kid is already obsessed with the movies.

10. Widget the World Watcher

This little purple dude kept me entertained after school. He could shape shift into anything and travelled all over the world saving planet Earth from evil animal poachers and polluters. I loved this show so much.
