Candy cigarettes are still around!

We came across a heated discussion on Facebook. A friend had seen candy cigarettes at a local corner store and was gobsmacked that shops still sold them, given the documented health risks associated to smoking.

Are they breaking the law?

Apparently, most sweet manufacturers changed their packaging design after being banned from using the word “cigarettes”, so they now appear as “candy sticks”, apart from the product pictured. While this product appears to be a novelty aimed at adults, it has been spotted in normal stores next to other sweets as well as adult novelty shops.

Most of us remember fun times spent with sweets as kids, but for many, candy cigarettes are just not cool anymore- we’re all too aware of the addictive properties and physical damage which accompany cigarettes, as well as the impact of cigarette smoking on the environment.

Nonetheless, the varied reactions range from outrage to laughter. But, what’s funny for an adult may not be suitable for children. The package pictured of “Just Like Dad Candy Cigarettes” seems to be retro-cool, but some things just aren’t funny anymore, right?

Do you think candy cigarettes are potentially dangerous?
