Christmas comes early for sick boy who ‘might not make it’

A terminally ill boy’s Christmas wish has come true – and the adorable little guy couldn’t be happier.

Unlike most boys his age, Jacob Thompson (9) didn’t ask Santa to deliver the must-have toy of the season or use his fertile imagination to wish for the unthinkable.

All Jacob wanted was to celebrate what could be his last Christmas.

The nine-year-old, who suffers from stage-four neuroblastoma, celebrated the festive season six weeks early, with his family by his side, at the Maine Medical Centre in Portland, America, reports.

He’s been in the hospital since 11 October and doctors told his heartbroken parents he had only a month to live.

So in an attempt to grant Jacob the festive cheer he might not experience, his parents decided to throw him a special Christmas party in his hospital ward – and even Mr and Mrs Claus made an appearance!

“It seems like it took forever but I’m so excited Christmas is finally here,” Jacob’s father, Roger Guay, told the Lee Goldberg News Centre. “I just want Jacob to be able to smile and not have to focus on the pain.”

The family, from Saco, Maine, gathered around little Jacob’s bed to celebrate Christmas with special cards they received from all over the world – 66 000 of them!

“A snapshot of some of the many cards Jacob’s received from all over the world. Thank you, again, to everybody who has taken the time to put a smile on his face,” reads a post on the Facebook page Jacob Thompson’s Journey.

Pictures of the special day were shared on the Facebook page, which was created to keep Jacob’s followers up to date on his health condition.

In the snaps Jacob looks happy and smiles sweetly as he poses with his Christmas gifts. Seems there’s nothing more humbling than seeing a child’s modest dream come true . . .
