Little boy applies for job at NASA – and gets a heartwarming reply

When it comes to self-belief and reaching for the stars, we can definitely take a page out of this young man’s book.

Jack Davis took the decision to apply for a vacant position at NASA with a carefully handwritten note.

The nine-year-old applied for the post of Planetary Protection Officer, which would require the selected individual to protect the planets and moons from human contamination when they visit space, as well as ensuring alien matter doesn’t affect Earth.

“I may be nine but think I would be fit for the job,” Jack motivated in his letter.

“One of the reasons is, my sister says I am an alien. Also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see.”

But his list of qualities does not end there.

“I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men in Black,” he added, while including his skills at playing video games.

NASA responded to the adorable application letter with a note from Dr James L. Green, the Director of the Planetary Science Division.

“I hear you are a ‘Guardian of the Galaxy’ and that you’re interested in being a NASA Planetary Protection Officer. That’s great!

“We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us, so I hope you will study hard and do well in school. We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days!”

NASA shared the exchange on Twitter and people loved it.

“The letter from Jack is fantastic and the reply from NASA is wonderful too. Good luck Jack, hopefully you will one day work for NASA,” one user tweeted.

While another reminisced about her experience as a little girl with big dreams.

“In 6th grade I wrote @NASA a letter asking questions for a report about Mars. They answered with a letter and info,” wrote @FancyNancyAnn.

She hashtagged the tweet #mathmaticiantoday.

The tweet received 17 000 retweets and 51 000 likes.

The nine-year-old is proof that dreams have no limits. And who knows, we might be hearing the name Jack Davis sometime in the future again!
