The subject of intersex is often dealt with with shame and embarrassment, and many people are not comfortable talking about it.
But what happens when your child is born with both male and female characteristics?
It often becomes harder for parents as they are dealing with having to raise a child with a condition that is mostly thought of as 'taboo'.
Amie, mom to intersex child Victory, says, "On her birth certificate she was put down as a male" because "the doctor gets to choose whether they are male or female."

They chose the name Victoria for the child, but they changed it to Victor because of what the doctor said.
When they found out that she was actually intersex they chose to name the child Victory. She says, "The name represents a hope that one day intersex people won't have to live in shame and secrecy".
