Nine-year-old’s heartfelt letter to Disney requesting princess characters who wear glasses
“I wanted to write the letter to make a difference. I don’t want other girls to think the way I did.”

A bespectacled nine-year-old has written a heartfelt letter to Disney bosses asking that they make princess characters who wear glasses.

Lowri Moore – who has worn glasses since she was a year old – wrote the note to Disney’s CEO, Robert Iger, earlier this month in a bid to help other children who also wear specs.

In the letter the youngster said the lack of glasses-wearing princesses made her feel like “she wasn’t beautiful enough”.

And that it isn’t fair that most Disney characters who wear spectacles are dubbed geeks.

With the support of her parents, Lowri, who lives in Chilwell, England, has since posted her missive to Disney and is awaiting the entertainment company’s reply.

“I wanted to write the letter to make a difference. I don’t want other girls to think the way I did,” Lowri said.

“When I was younger I’d take my glasses off to play princesses with my sisters even though I really can’t see without them.

“I’m now old enough to know that I’m beautiful with glasses, but now I feel sorry for younger girls who may not realise it yet.”

Lowri’s favourite Disney princess is Belle from Beauty and the Beast and she says she thinks the character would look great with a pair of glasses.

Her parents, Cyrilyn (40) and Brad (44), founders of children’s charity Operation Orphan, are bursting with pride with their daughter's idea.

“She’s like a little advocate for her friends. I’m so proud of her,” Cyrilyn says.

Dear Mr Robert Iger,

My name is Lowri and I’m nine years old. I’ve worn glasses since I was a baby.

I’ve grown up watching Disney princesses and I’ve always admired them and thought they were beautiful. Unfortunately, none of them wears glasses and that made me feel like I wasn’t beautiful enough.

So I hope you understand and please may you make a Disney princess who has glasses. I feel like there’s lots of little girls who wear glasses and I don’t want them to feel like I did. Sadly, most of the characters who wear glasses are called geeks and I don’t think that’s fair.

I think that by creating a princess who wears glasses and isn’t called a geek, it would help people to know they’re beautiful no matter what."
