While the kids are on holiday and you’re frantically running around getting the last of your Christmas gifts, why not rope them and get them involved. No, we don’tmean giving them a budget to run rampant in the malls looking for Christmas decorations, but you can sit them down in front of this easy paper crafts tutorial and have them make these decorations themselves.

So get out some scrap paper – because that’s all they’ll really need – and let them help this festive season with these adorable and nifty Christmas crafts!

Paper stars and hearts

Tools

  • Strips of paper – for the stars you need a longer strip (for the stars we used a 1,5cm x 30cm strip and for the hearts we used a 2cm x 6cm strip, but there aren’t really any set strip sizes – any scraps will do)
  • Scissors

Tips and tricks

  • Be sure not to fold over the edges too tightly as they’ll be difficult to press in to create a dent and pop up your shapes.
  • You can use plain scraps of paper or you can use coloured paper as we did for the hearts. You can also, however, use scrapbook paper which looks beautiful, especially if you’re going to use your paper crafts as Christmas decorations.
  • To turn these crafts into Christmas decorations, make a small hole in your stars and hearts and thread a thin string or ribbon through it. They make beautiful paper ornaments.
  • To take your stars and hearts to the next level, you can also write little notes on the strips of paper before folding them. Place them in a jar and on Christmas everyone can open a little star or heart, maybe even one that was written and folded specifically for them, with a message from someone that loves them.

Napkin Christmas trees

Tools

  • Paper napkin

Tips and tricks

  • You can use any napkin you’ve got at home. We used the paper napkins but we’d also suggest using cotton ones. Because they’re thicker they’re more likely to stand up on their own.
  • If you are having trouble keeping your paper napkin up, use a pin to keep it together.
