Cheap birthday parties

So far all my son's parties, bar one, have been at home. I have made all his cakes apart from his first (which was a gift from a friend who makes cakes for a living and didn't know what to get him).

I keep them simple. I serve some fruit, a platter of veggie sticks, a bowl of popcorn and another of crisps. Any more and it goes to waste (I learned that lesson after having planned several really fun dishes that no one ate).

Party favours are home made and simple - I try to stick to the theme of the party so last year's Knights party each child got a badge in the shape of a shield made from crazy clay. This year we're doing wizards so chopsticks with a bit of glue from a glue gun, some paint and glitter and we have magic wands! Even invitations are either electronic or home made - we made owl paper planes for this year.

And all this impresses the kids and the parents and is actually very simple and cheap!
