When I was in high school if I REALLY did not feel like going to school, my mother would check if I had any exams and if not, then allow me to stay at home, I didn't abuse that privilege EVER, I also never bunked a day off school and also do not ever take "Panado days" from work.
You can still be responsible about it. I highly doubt that you allowing your child a bit of a break once in a blue moon (within reason) is going to mold your child into a lazy lay-about who finds every excuse in the book to stay away from work. Be reasonable.
