"The win-at-all-costs attitude often displayed by parents and coaches on the side of the sports field or around the swimming pool is disappointing and often detrimental to a child’s development" says Gary Kirsten.
You can hear him speak on this and more in a series of talks brought to schools in the Western Cape by Gary Kirsten Cricket, in partnership with Fairtree, as they present ‘Parenting in Sport’.
The series is designed to bring attention to the valuable contribution of sport within a child’s education. Kirsten will share his personal insight into how parent’s approach to their children’s sport can affect their sporting experience and long term development.
"School is a place of preparation, not performance. Once our kids have learnt skills and gained confidence based on real competence, they are better prepared for the stress of performance and competition," he added.
As a proud father and sporting icon, Gary Kirsten enjoys speaking to parents and educators about their approach to children’s sporting life, and how they can positively and negatively influence this experience.
Fairtree Managing Director, Bradley Anthony promises that Kirsten will share "remarkable parts of his own story" that as a parent helps him "to rethink and sharpen my involvement in school sports."
Gary will be presenting his Parenting in Sports talk at a number of Western Cape Schools.
