Despite our best efforts as parents, our children will do as we do, not as we say, says Dr Greg Venning.

"Try as we might to have it the other way around, it doesn’t work. Research shows that this influence goes deeper than you might expect," the certified chiropractor from Cape Town told Parent24

Children learning to walk will model their gait on that of their parents, he explains, and the length of your stride, the placement of your feet, even how our feet move are all closely observed and copied by your children without you being aware.

"So your children are learning their habits from yours, modelling their patterns of behaviour on yours. All without you being aware" he says.

In a world where chronic diseases are hitting us at younger and younger ages, it is important for parents to be creating nourishing habits and patterns in their own lives before expecting their children to ‘eat their veggies.’

Now our habits and patterns are often conglomerations of what we have modelled from our youngest years and newer ones that we have consciously or unconsciously created over time. Often our habits and patterns seem hard to change beyond the next diet or detox.

The world of nutrition is confusing with experts yelling loudly from many corners, but, Dr Venning says, there is a way through the confusion.

The first step is to discover a Philosophy of Food that creates well-being. One that fosters vitality and helps you take control, and this is exactly what author and wellness professional, Dr Venning will be presenting this weekend.
