Is the Easter Bunny really cleared to deliver chocolate eggs this weekend?

We're careful to ensure that we only share accurate and truthful information with our readers, but when this document appeared on the Parent24 radar, we really wanted to turn a blind eye to the dubious source.

Because who doesn't need this kind of good news this weekend?

And New Zealand's Prime Minister announced earlier this week that she was allowing the Easter Bunny to deliver his essential goods this weekend, so why not our guy?

The document in question grants the Easter Bunny a "Special Eggs-Emption" to travel freely across South Africa, adding that his is an essential service to children.

The permit allows him to deliver chocolate eggs, but he is not limited to this essential good alone.

The document also assures us that the Easter Bunny has been tested and is virus free, and that he will follow all safety measures and protocols.

Easter Bunny Permit to Deliver

On close inspection, the document appears to have some factual inaccuracies, making the source even more suspect.

So we followed due diligence and checked with the spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism, Hlengiwe Nhlabathi-Mokota, who verified the document didn't originate from the department.

Nonetheless, it would be nice to think that this weekend the Easter Bunny will be the one (mythical) person allowed to visit our homes and spread some cheer.

So if you do decide to use this document to keep your kids in good spirits, use your discretion.

In my house, the kids know the Easter Bunny only visits a clean home, so they're taking up brooms and mops today, and getting busy with dusting and packing away toys.
