TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES (AGE 8 - 100)
These days it seems like every superhero is getting their own movie. Their sidekicks? Not so much. Robin and his gang of budding superhero friends set out to win over a Hollywood director, but to be taken seriously, they’ll need to defeat a real villain and, you know, maybe throw in a few musical numbers along the way.
Nominated for an Annie award for outstanding writing, this clever animated spoof is a great watch for the whole family – teens included.
It’s packed with multi-layered jokes and references to the superhero classics, which means that while the kids are cracking up at the potty humour, there’s a whole lot for the rest of us to enjoy too.
Apart from the familiar voices from the series, celeb cameos to listen out for include Nicolas Cage, Will Arnett, Jimmy Kimmel and Kristen Bell, who received a Kid’s Choice nomination for Favourite Female Voice for her role as Hollywood director Jade Wilson.
K.C. UNDERCOVER (AGE 10+)
Meet K.C. Cooper – tech whiz, maths genius, black belt … teenager. What she doesn’t know is that her parents are spies - and they’re about to recruit her to their team.
It-girl Zendaya (The Greatest Showman, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Euphoria) stars as K.C. The combination of kick-ass fights – in heels, of course – and awkward teen humour has earned her two Kids' Choice Awards for Favourite Female TV Star.
The comedy series also received two Emmy nominations, for stunt coordination and cinematography.
WONDER WOMAN (AGE 12-100)
A downed pilot brings news of WW1 to the hidden island home of the mythical Amazonian warriors, setting apprentice warrior princess Diana on a quest to confront Ares, the god of war.
DC’s biggest female superhero comic book adaptation was a box-office smash hit. Parents, stay close – this is not a movie for younger kids, but it is great to watch with the teens, and could kick off conversations about war, morality and doing the right thing.
Wonder Woman carries a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is a Common Sense Media Selection. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine won the 2019 Teen Choice Action Movie Actress and Actor awards, starring alongside Golden Globe winner Robin Wright (House of Cards) and nominee David Thewlis (Fargo). The follow-up movie, Wonder Woman 1984, is due for release next year.
