Measles is a hot topic lately with outbreaks in the US where the disease was almost eradicated. According to an IOL article, in 2014 South Africa saw 38 cases compared to the previous year's 6. the National Institute for Communicable Diseases spokesperson, Nomusa Shabalala said that this was a concern because "in 2009-2011 South Africa had a large measles outbreak with 18 000 cases, and we don’t want to see this again”.
