Can we just slow clap Alexis Ohanian?

Okay, maybe not a slow clap because praise isn't appropriate for day to day parental responsibilities, but maybe just a 'see, children, that's what a real man looks like' and a hat tip?

Whether he means to or not, the Reddit founder is doing a lot to obliterate the traditional view of a husband and father as just a distant provider, incapable of child-care.

His latest venture into the world of hair care is a case in point, as he tweeted about trying to get into a few private Facebook groups so that he can learn more about styling his daughter's hair.

In Top hair care tips for anti-washing warriors, we spoke with Kiddies Korner Hair Salon founder, Mbali Mncwabe who told us that when it comes to younger children, hair washing can be tricky.

"In my years' experience of owning a children's salon, I have witnessed and learned that children under 3 hate washing hair," she said, advising parents to set out a specific day of the week for washing.

For Mbali, the secret to hair is purchasing the right products.

"My number one tip I could give to parents is to always check the ingredients in the products," she revealed, cautioning against "sulphates and parabens, which strip the hair of its natural oils and [dries] it out."

In Hair care tips for kinks, coils and curls, we got a number of dos and don'ts from Kurlz & Kutz's co-founder, Tshilidzi Makhari, on how to care for coarser hair textures.

Tshilidzi's top tip is to "always finger-detangle the hair first before shampooing."

Her guide starts from the very basics of finger-detangling all the way to plaiting and is highly recommended for any parent looking for hair care advice.
