"It’s just plastic everywhere you look, and we are to blame for this"

Speak out.
Speak out.

We recently wrote an article called "Green family part 2: Saying no to plastic bags" on how families should find alternative solutions for carrying their groceries when going shopping. One reader in particular shared their thoughts on the matter, and it's safe to say it's a topic they're rather passionate about.

Here's what they had to say:

"It gets my blood boiling that the first thing a teller at Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar and Woolworths asks is if you want plastic bags. My response is, "No thanks, you can see I have my own cloth bags."

And: Does having children make us care more about the environment?

I then tell them, "You should not be selling plastic bags, it is bad for the environment, you are killing the world with all this plastic." I then get such an attitude, you can’t believe it.

While on plastic bags, what about all the ”paper packed” food on the shelves? It’s ridiculous. It’s just plastic everywhere you look, and the consumer is to blame for this, they are just too darn lazy to sort through the loose veggies displayed. Put it in your basket and it get it weighed and priced at the till. Now I know that all the supermarkets will tell us this is not feasible, so how come it works so well overseas?

I’m sick to death of plastic bags, I have to waste my time and petrol money going to throw these bags in a recycling bin, if you're lucky enough to find one.

With the profits these organisations are making just look at what they are paying their top executives  they can supply FREE recycled paper bags."
