Parents celebrate trans daughter's transition with gender reveal photoshoot

accreditation

In a candid interview, US nurse and mom of two Julia Hindsley shares her gender reveal story, explaining that six years ago, in the days leading up to the gender reveal of her second child, everyone at work told her she was having a girl.

"My husband would tell me he only makes boys. I had a gut feeling my husband was right and that we were about to let down a handful of people. When we bit into those cake pops, there it was: the bright blue center."

The Texan mom shared her gender reveal party story with US site lovewhatmatters.com, but then admits "What I did not know is this gender reveal did not really reveal anything about the child we were having at all."

By age six it was clear to the whole family that their son Easton was in fact their daughter Ella. Her favourite colour had always been pink, she loved all things girly - and she straight up asked her parents why God made a 'mistake' when He made her a boy.

Once the family had processed this and adjusted accordingly, Julia and her husband agreed to have a gender reveal photoshoot to celebrate Ella.

"Although typical gender reveals seem to place a significant amount of stress about how important it is to be a boy or a girl 20 weeks before the child is born," mom Julia posted on Facebook, "I felt it was necessary to have this photoshoot for Ella; the main reason being so she knows that she is not a mistake."

"We have mourned Easton and continue to do so, but we are moving forward celebrating our brave Ella; and her favorite color has always happened to be pink."

Sharing the photos was not easy, as Julia explains she had been hesitant to post them all and hesitant to do any more after reading some of the comments.

"However," she decided, "the more people that we can touch and help with our story, the better. We are putting ourselves in a vulnerable situation going public this way."

"If this helps just one person learn about what it means to be transgender or one parent to accept their child, then it will be all worth it."

Julia's friends and family have fully supported them, with many commenting that the photoshoot is "amazing" and "beautiful".

On Facebook Christina commented "What an amazing gift to show her she is definitely not a mistake!" and Hayley wrote "...you have turned the gender reveal into something Transgender people can embrace, thank you soooooo much"

Michelle shared "I also have a gay son and can not express how much your 'gender reveal' has made my heart swell with a bittersweet happiness. Thank you for embracing Ella's transition and not making it harder for her as so many parents seem to do. We NEED this awareness for other parents to see how it CAN be navigated with love and acceptance."
