WATCH: Another powerful ad from Gillette, this time featuring a dad teaching his transgender son to shave

Gillette’s gotten some flack for their razor sharp ads. In January their ad commenting on toxic masculinity struck a nerve with the very market they’re advertising to, but good on them for encouraging men to stick to their tagline and embody "the best a man can get”.

Here with another powerful ad, Gillette shares the beautiful milestone moment between father and son as a young man learns how to shave.

Samson Brown, a transgender male, talks about the man he wants to become, and how his father, in something as simple as the first shave, is helping him find that person. 

Watch the moving advert below: 

“Growing up I was always trying to figure out the kind of man I want to become. And I’m still trying to figure out the kind of man I want to become.” 

Samson talks about his journey and says all he wanted to be was happy. He’s now at the point in his manhood where he feels he can finally be, and that has everything to do with his dad. 

“South, south, north, north, east, west, never in a hurry,” he recites, as his dad stands by – smiling.  

“You’re doing fine,” he reassures Samson. 

“Now don’t be scared.” 

Samson took to Facebook to talk about the power of this very special moment he was able to share with his dad. “[I] wanted to include my father, who has been one of my greatest supporters throughout my transition, encouraging me to be confident and live authentically as my best self,” he wrote.  

“This moment overwhelmed me during filming and again today seeing the ad since it's been launched. I'm keenly aware of how blessed I am to be able to exist in this world being supported by my family in ways that all too often many of my trans brothers, sisters, and siblings who exist outside the binary are not always as fortunate. 

“Be good to yourselves. Love yourselves. And know that when you greet the world with love, it can and will love you back, often in the places you least expect.”
