Can you imagine having more than 30 children in your care during lockdown?

If family life under lockdown is wearing on your nerves, imagine having more than 30 children in your care.

Costa Ricans Melba Jimenez and Victor Guzman are the heads of a huge family, consisting of 37 biological and adopted children.

Describing their family life under lockdown as both beautiful and hard Melba says that she tries her best to keep her children occupied.

"It's been an experience that I think is beautiful, it's nice, and it's hard. We can't say that everything is easy because we have so many kids and adolescents. We have to look for interesting things for them [to do], to change things up so that they don't get stressed out, and even more so because we have children with special needs."

But it's not all fun and games; the children are also expected to pitch in with household chores and to help each other with school work.

And while the Central American country of Costa Rica may have some of the fewest coronavirus cases in the world, the family is taking social distancing very seriously.

"This pandemic is about life or death; we have to take care of ourselves; we have to do it out of love and out of responsibility too."
