"We enjoyed Incredibles 2 until Superdad used the Lord's name in vain"
Are we being considerate enough when it comes to religion? Or do we carelessly throw around certain words without even realising they're blasphemous? A parent wrote in raising the point that even the use of "Oh my Gxx!" is disrespectful.
Are we being blasphemous when casually mentioning God in common expressions like "OMG"? (iStock)

In response to taking his family to watch Incredibles 2 this weekend see our review of the film here – one parent wrote in to explain why they had to leave the cinema halfway through the film. Read his response below:

"Thanks for your article.

"We did enjoy the first part of the movie, until our 7-year-old told us in the middle of the movie that we needed to go, as they used the Lords name in vain when 'Superdad exclaimed 'OH MY GXX!'

"It is sad that a movie that is supposed to be a family movie would blaspheme so blatantly knowing very well that the majority of their audience would be kids?

"And no doubt people might comment that 'OMG' is not serious nor blasphemous or even tell us to get a life, but using the Lord's name in vain is clearly forbidden in the Bible and I don't see why movies nowadays are so intent on misusing the Lord's name.

"They will not dare say anything about Mohammed because they know Muslims will take offense and there will be serious repercussions. They will not dare say anything about race, LGBT, etc because that is socially unacceptable, and again, there will be a massive outcry. Yet there seems to be no problem to use God's name in vain and everyone just assumes it's fine with Christians. Or if Christians complain about this we are alienated and told how false our religion is and all sorts of fingers are pointed.

"Every religion/sect/gender/race/sexual orientation is entitled to their belief and should be respected, just not Christianity?

"Anyway, I enjoyed the movie until that part and it is a pity we had to walk out at that stage and ask for our money back, which was a loooong and interesting discussion to say the least!

"That's my 2 cents' worth."
