It's the middle of the year and slowly but surely, the unwanted "burn out" feeling is starting to return. And what is worse? The schools are about to break up.

So, why not take off a day or two now and plan a relaxing, kid-free outing to Cape Town while you can?

Think about it... when you go out, all the kids will be sitting in classrooms.

There will be no-one running around screaming or tugging at your clothes. It will just be some much deserved adult fun.

You deserve it

So you've decided that this isn't such a bad idea? Good on you! Now the only problem is choosing a place to go. No worries, we have some great locations for you to start with.

• Rhodes Memorial Restaurant

Rhodes Memorial is one of the most visited landmarks in Cape Town. Over the weekend, visitors can bring their entire families to look at the amazing view of the Mother City and have lunch at the restaurant conveniently located on the premises.

Kids love it here. As for parents... well, I suspect the view can't be fully enjoyed when you worry that your child might run off.

Take a day off and spend it here with your loved one.

Absorb the historic beauty of Rhodes Memorial and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate inside, as the interior provides a warm and cosy atmosphere in winter.

• Simon's at Groot Constantia

If beautiful views and a romantic atmosphere are what you're after, make your way to Simon's at Groot Constantia.

This venue is so beautiful that it is regularly used for events such as weddings and birthday celebrations thanks to its naturally intimate atmosphere.

The chef is passionate about food and uses only fresh ingredients to create meals with flavour and flair. If your taste ranges from pasta to tasty steaks, there is something for everyone. The wine list has been carefully selected for optimum enjoyment.

• Cape Point

At the end of the Cape Peninsula, about 80 km from Cape Town, is Cape Point. This heritage site is visited by many international tourists. Why not make a point of visiting it yourself?

If you and your partner enjoy taking romantic walks, there are a number of marked paths for strolls or longer walks within the Cape reserve. The Smitswinkel viewpoint is 15 minute walk through unique fynbos.

Are you getting a little hungry? Have a bite at the Two Oceans Restaurant where you can enjoy a spectacular view of False Bay while you have a delicious meal.

• The Cable Car

Aah... another family friendly outing. This time you don't have to worry about kids. Just concentrate on your loved one and the awesome views that Cape Town has to offer. It may be a chilly ride up but that's the perfect excuse to cuddle as close as possible.

Take your hubby or wife for lunch on the top of the mountain. This definitely qualifies as getting out of your routine.

Table Mountain Café offers a trendy menu that caters for the changing demands of the Cableway's visitors but its important top call ahead as weather will decide if it is open for business or not.

• Get away from it all

So you've taken a few days off? Maximise it and go for a week day trip, just the two of you.

The best part about this is that most hotels or getaway destinations will have fewer people there, especially children, which means that you will have so much more alone time together.

As much as you love your kids, there really is nothing wrong with closing your eyes and picturing calm and serenity with the one you chose to spend the rest of your life with.

Do you look forward to when the kids go back to school?
