The 2-week wait
The worst of all is the hope that I might be pregnant says this wanna-be mom-to-be.
When you and your partner decide to try for a baby you become very aware of your menstrual cycle. Before, I was just vaguely aware that it came around more or less the same time every month. Now I know when I’m ovulating, most fertile and when to expect my period.

I even have an app for it on my phone.

When you've done all that is humanly possible to ensure that you have created a new life, there is the dreaded Two Week Wait (or TWW). Do you have any idea how long two weeks is for a woman hoping to fall pregnant? It’s like eternity.

Some TWWs are better than others. Some months I know we just didn’t try hard enough or missed our window of opportunity. Those are good months. There's no anxiety or hopeful wishing. No praying that Aunt Flo doesn't arrive. Just calmly waiting for her to pay her visit and welcoming her with open arms so that we can try again.

But then there are the months where we did try and we grasped those opportune times. Those TWWs are filled with not only anxiety but worst of all... hope. A hope that is crushed when that damn Aunt Flo still decides to visit. Stupid old bat, I wish she'd give me a break.

If anything, trying to fall pregnant has taught me one thing - patience. And also, letting go. Those TWWs are easier when you have no expectations. It takes the pressure off both of you and takes the edge of the madness that tends to take over your life when that’s all you’re concentrating on.

I just remind myself, 'don't worry, you can try again next month'.
