What is it?
When a child is having a tantrum, they may hold their breath to try to get their own way. There are also rare medical conditions which result in breath-holding over which the child has no control.

What to do

Breath-holding spells resolve spontaneously soon after the child passes out, and your toddler should be fine afterwards. The first time a spell occurs, take the child to a doctor to rule out other causes such as epilepsy. For tantrum breath-holding, the less attention paid to the behavior, the better.
