Cold sores
What is it?
The herpes simplex virus causes these small blisters around the mouth. The first infection can be accompanied by a fever and loss of appetite. Before a blister appears there is usually a tingling, itchy feeling.

What to do

Keep anti-viral cream on hand so you can apply it as soon as your child reports the tingling feeling. This can stop the cold sore from developing if you catch it in time. An existing cold sore will take a week or two to disappear completely.
