What is it?
Pain in the outer, middle or inner ear, most commonly caused by an infection. This often goes along with a build-up of mucous from a cold or allergies, but can also be related to other causes such as regular swimming.

What to do

Give paracetamol to ease pain, as earache can be very painful and often gets worse at night when the child is lying down. A warm cloth placed on the ear can help relieve the pain. If the pain does not ease within a day, get a doctor to examine the child in case antibiotics are necessary.
