Tonsilitis

Inflammation of the tonsils.

Symptoms:

  • Sore inflamed throat and red swollen tonsils which can be seen on either side of the uvula at the back of the throat. 
  • Fever 
  • Difficulty swallowing and refusal to eat.
  • Earache

Seriousness:

  • Take your child to the doctor. 

Treatment:

  • Liquid paracetamol to help relieve the pain and fever. 
  • The doctor is likely to prescribe antibiotics. 
  • Keep your child at home for about three days.
  • If tonsilitis occurs frequently your child may have to have the tonsils surgically removed.
