I don’t know about you, but stationery shopping at the beginning of every year made the back to school period a little less stressful growing up.

Choosing book covers and labels and helping my mom cover the books was exciting, and then there were the glitter pens, brand new pencil crayon sets of 12 or 24 – maybe even 36, if we were lucky – along with those pretty pencils with pompoms on the ends, to really get us wanting to go back to school.

Now, the plain, ordinary stationery supplies are much too expensive, never mind the fancy HBs. So as much as we want our kids to get excited about the new school year and stuff their pencil bag full of pretty little things, we simply can’t afford to splurge on a 6-pack of sparkly pencils.

But with this DIY, the kids can experience the joy and create their own. We’ve put together 3 easy and inexpensive ways to pimp your pencils. Chances are you've already got these items lying around at home.

What you’ll need:

  • Pencils
  • Modge Podge or gloopy glue
  • Glitter
  • Washi tape
  • Scissors
  • Wool
