Chess helps kids do better in school
Shaping young minds, once piece at a time.

The Tsogo Sun Moves for Life chess Programme pushes to shape young minds into bright young minds. The Moves for Life Chess programme teaches youths the technicalities and intricacies of the game and benefits the learners’ lives in the crucial areas of maths, science, and life skills.

From the age of five, over 19 500 students have been taught the game of chess in over 45 schools. By learning and partaking in the game of chess, there is improvement in the children’s concentration, and develops not only logical thinking, abstract thinking, planning skills and memory, but also their analytical, visualisation, and decision-making skills. On an even greater level, the programme has encouraged learning in an entertaining atmosphere allowing children to socialise in an educational environment.

The value of this programme has also prompted a collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, which will conduct impact studies on the students to monitor the beneficial impact it has on the children during the development of their schools years.

In 2015 the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life Chess Programme will grow from strength to strength, spreading into the schools and hearts of young South Africans. The minds of our country’s children will develop in an educational and social environment through the enlightening game of chess.

Do any of your kids play chess? Have you noticed a change in their grades?
