Half of the teachers at a primary school in Kansas in the US are pregnant.

Seven of the 15 teachers at Oak Street Elementary School are expecting, one of being pregnant with twins, Insider reports.

Ashley Miller, the school’s principal, says she was shocked when one teacher after another came to her to announce their pregnancy.

“I was very excited, obviously, because this is great news,” Ashley said.

“After the third one I was a little in shock, the fourth one I was really in shock, the fifth one I didn’t know what to say and by the seventh one I had to remember to congratulate her because my first words were, ‘Are you kidding me?'"

According to ABC News, two of the teachers have already given birth, to girls.

Of the eight women, three are expecting girls and one a boy. The other mothers don’t know the sex of their babies yet.

Luckily the pregnancies are spread out so the teachers will not be on maternity leave at the same time. Their babies are due between March and October.

The women are happy to be sharing this special moment which has further deepened bonds in the close-knit community.

“It’s so much fun to see the other mommies in the hall and we’re asking each other, ‘How do you feel,’” said Kelli Jo Sheahon, a Grade 4 teacher expecting twins in October.

“I don’t know that a lot of other people get that experience at work.”

Principal Ashley joked that the school needs to be sponsored by a nappy company, Newsly reports.

"What we really need right now is a sponsorship from, like, Pampers or Huggies or somebody."
