A couple with 13 sons are expecting their 14th child in April. And they’re hoping it will be a girl.
But Jay and Kateri Schwandt from Michigan in the US say they want to wait until the baby’s born to find out the gender.
The couple – whose home is jam-packed with bunk beds, backpacks and hockey sticks – reckon one more child won’t be a financial burden. Mom Kateri, who herself is one of 14 kids, says she’s used to large families.
“If you have three, it’s the same as having 10 at this point, if you ask me,” she says. “It’s just more chaos, more noise. It’s nothing we’re not used to.”
With 13 boys under one roof in a six-bedroom home, the couple say they’re really hoping for a girl.
“I’d love to have a girl,” Jay says. But they’re also realistic about the prospects, as he adds, “But I just don’t think it’s in the cards.”
When Kateri was pregnant with their 13th child a genetic specialist told them the odds of having 12 boys in a row are about 0,02 percent.
So since they’ve defied the odds so far, they just might be getting their little girl after all.
