If there’s one thing we’re all taking away from the coronavirus pandemic – it’s the connection we all share through the power of technology.

And it was no different for Marty Gandelman and his wife, Stephanie, from New Jersey in the US.

The couple struggled to conceive for three years – they did four rounds of in vitro fertilization and had three miscarriages – before they finally fell pregnant with their first child, Refinery reports.

The 34-year-old found out she was pregnant in July 2019 and was due in April this year, but went into induced labour on 27 March – an unforgettable moment because her husband couldn’t physically be by her side.

“When we heard the news that Marty couldn’t be in the room with me we were both really sad and it was hard to take,” she says.

Due to the lockdown and social distancing restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Marty had to witness the birth of their first child, Jake, via a video call on Zoom.

“By the time it happened it had sunk in that I had to stay at home but I was very, very upset at first,” he explained.

Marty felt nervous at first, but found it was reassuring to see that his wife was in good hands. Even though he couldn’t be there physically, by the time little Jake arrived into the world, he felt as if he was in the room, Metro reports.

“Not being there to hug and kiss Jake right away was tough, of course,” the first-time dad explained.

“When I saw that mom and baby were both ok I was over the moon and to be honest, being able to watch did make it feel like I was in the room with them.”

Stephanie thanked all her followers for the support on her Instagram page.

“The outpouring of love and support I’ve been receiving this week is overwhelming,” she captioned the post.

Although the couple encountered challenges, they’re delighted to finally be home with their son.
