First comes the pregnancy announcement, then there’s the big gender reveal and finally, after the little one makes their arrival, it’s the grand unveiling of the tiny tot’s name.
Bestowing a name on your child is arguably one of the most important parenting decisions – after all, it’s a moniker they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.
American media company BabyCenter recently released its list of the most popular baby names of 2018. The list is based on data from more than 742 000 parents who shared their child’s name on the site.
Some might frown at the idea that their child’s “common” name means there’s nothing unique about it. But hey, at least your choice of trendy moniker shows how right-up-to-the-minute you are.
The name Sophia celebrates it’s ninth consecutive year as the top choice for girls, while Jackson stays the most popular name for boys for six years running, Metro.co.uk writes.
Oliver and Layla took spots in the top 10 of the boys and girls lists respectively, kicking out Logan and Zoe.
This year’s fastest climbers include Everly, Isla, Leo and Carson, BabyCenter adds.
To ensure the lists captured true popularity, names that sound the same but have several spellings (such as Sophia and Sofia, Jackson and Jaxon) were combined.
