A photo of an eight-year-old boy holding his crying classmate’s hand on the first day of school has gone viral.
Christian Moore was preparing to start his first day of second grade at Minneha Core Knowledge Elementary School in Wichita, Kansas in the US, when he noticed a fellow classmate crying in a corner, People reports.
Christian walked over to the little boy, took his hand and helped walked him into the building.
The eight-year-old had no idea that his schoolmate, Connor, was autistic and overwhelmed by the commotion of the first day back at school, Fox News reports.
The heart-warming moment was captured by Christian’s mother, Courtney Moore, who posted the photo on Facebook.
“I’m so proud of my son, he seen a kid balled up into a corner crying, so he went to console him, grabbed his hand and walked him inside of the school! It is an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate child! He’s a kid with a Big heart, the first day of school started off right,” she captioned the picture.
Connor’s mother, April Crites, commented on the viral post telling Courtney that she was extremely grateful for what her son had done.
“I worry every day that he’s going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart.
“If there were more children like him, I wouldn’t worry about such things.”
In an interview with Connor and the two moms, the little boy said the incident made him feel happy, Sun UK reports.
“I was in the first day of school and I started crying. Then he helped me and I was happy,” he said.
According to the moms, the two boys have since bonded and are inseparable.
