During an episode of Facebook series Red Table talk, rapper Common opened up about the hardships of fatherhood and his hopes of getting married one day.

Common, who has been on the market for a while now following his recent split from former lover and political analysist Angela Rye – got candid with talk show host Jada Pinkett-Smith and her co-hosts, about the hardships of co-parenting his daughter Omoye Assata Lynn.

“My daughter Omoye confronted me and it made me feel like; defensive, I was hurt and I was mad too,” he explained referring back to their estranged period.

“She was harbouring those feelings...She felt like ‘well I didn’t always have my daddy so if I tell him some stuff he did wrong…I’ll have him less.’”

Omoye, who is the rapper’s 21-year-old daughter that he shares with ex-girlfriend Kim Jones, admitted to feeling abandoned by her father after her parents split up according to People.

In his new memoir Let Love Have The Last Word the 47-year-old activist, who has had his fair slew of failed relationships, writes about achieving everything except for marriage.

“I would like to be a husband. I think for a long time I was in and out with that. Do I really wanna be a husband or is this what society says to,” he admitted to Jada.

“Now, I just think I want that partnership to be able to experience life where I’m like growing as a human being. And kind of like spark each other. It’s fun too. It’s fun at times. I know it’s hard.”

Speaking on his ideal woman, Common revealed that he would like “a woman that definitely has spirituality. Fun. Sense of humour.”
