The family are thrilled after years of fighting the killer disease.
Their teenage daughter, who has an incurable brain tumour, is responding miraculously after taking a new drug for her cancer.
Kira Noble (16) was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma at just 11 years old and told by doctors that her tumour was virtually incurable, the Mirror reports.
The Scottish teen’s treatment gradually intensified and to date she’s endured 20 rounds of chemotherapy.
Early last year, she was devastated when doctors informed her that the illness was “incurable but treatable”, the Daily Record reports.
Kira was later placed on an experimental drug Lorlatinib, which is said to have far fewer side effects than chemotherapy.
Kira has since experienced a major turnaround, her tumour has shrunk to just millimetres.
Kira’s mom, Aud, runs a Facebook page called “Kira the machine” and shares many of their trials and tribulations with the world.
The cancer puts Kira at risk for coronavirus, so it’s become hard for her to attend appointments at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children during lockdown.
“It’s very daunting to have to leave the house, to go into the hospital and to have to walk around,” Kira’s mom said.
“I’m always questioning where the virus could be lurking. But it has to be done, we have to just take a deep breath and do it.”
Kira, on the other hand, is already very used to social distancing, having had to isolate many times before due to her treatments.
The lucky teen is well set on her recovery and will continue to be carefully monitored.
