A recent trend where parents pretend to bump their babies’ heads has gone viral.

The bizarre joke begins with the parents holding their baby’s head close to a hard surface and then they knock on the surface with their free hand. The infants, who’ve been tricked into thinking they’ve bumped their heads, assume they are in pain and begins to cry, Mirror UK reports.

In the clips the parents can be heard saying: “Did you hit your head? Does it hurt? It’s ok, don’t cry,” as they try to sooth their kids.

The prank which was first shared on Reddit has received mixed reactions, with some parents describing it as cruel.

“This reinforces how strong the parental reaction is for kids,” user mjolnir76 said about the clip which was filmed in China.

“I can’t tell you how many times my kids took a small tumble and looked to me to know how they should react. I didn’t freak out, so they didn’t freak out,” another user said.

“My dad used to do this to me when I was a toddler, but the reverse,” Reddit user devetsil commented.

“Whenever I fell over he would laugh at me. And like an idiot baby, I assumed something funny must have happened and would start laughing too.”
