Noise in the night

Two years ago there was a huge veld fire near our house, and the night was cleft by the sound of fire engines, police loudspeakers blaring, and evacuated family members arriving with dogs and luggage.

My sons slept through it all.

If the alarm goes off by mistake, they sleep through it - and even their dad watering the garden outside their windows at 5am won't budge them.

I, on the other hand, am woken by blinds rattling, taps dripping, and moths flapping against the window.

It's an age thing, is it?
