Many people think that toys and games are frivolous activities designed solely to stunt child development and your pocket, well, what if I told you that that’s not the case.

Often, toys and games are designed to help young ones reach their developmental milestones. While it can be tough to navigate what the key developmental ages are and how we can assist in fostering that development in our kids, it’s important to learn when and how.

Playing games and with toys serves a vital role in developing social, physical and intellectual skills, according to Dr Bettye M Caldwell, a PhD Professor of Paediatrics in Child Development and Education.

Toys that are designed for this use a blend of problem solving, colour and shape recognition as well as mobility-focused features.

A journal article by Kenneth R Ginsburg and the Committee on Communications, and the Committee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health, found that play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength.
